A burglary occurred on June 11, 2008 at Northwest Apartments between midnight and 9 a.m.  Someone entered an apartment through a window and stole a laptop and wallet while the resident was asleep upstairs.

The CMU Police Department is offering a $250.00 cash reward for any information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.

The CMU Police Department is currently investigating an incident where someone vandalized twenty-nine vehicles parked in the following CMU parking lots 22, 40, 41 and 44.

The incident took place sometime on Sunday, March 16 between 2:00 am and 10:00 am.

The CMU Police Department is offering a $250.00 cash reward for any information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.

On Friday, March 14, 2008 at 1:15 a.m. in Cobb Hall on the Central Michigan University Campus, a suspect threw a three inch clip knife at two subjects in the hallway.  No one was injured or struck by the weapon.  The suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing.

Sometime between Monday, March 3, at 5 pm and Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at 11pm, someone forcibly entered a room on the forth floor of Moore Hall. They stole two computers and two flat panel display monitors from the room.

On 1/25/08 between 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm, CMU Police responded to two separate reports of Burglary/Home Invasion.  These incidents occurred in Calkins and Robinson Hall.   

In each of the investigations it was determined that the suspect entered unlocked dorm rooms and took electronic items.  In one of the incidents a resident of the room was home at the time of the incident. 

CMU Police are currently looking for two male suspects in conjunction with this investigation. The first suspect is described as a white male with darker complexion, 18-21 yrs. old, approximately 5’10 - 6' tall, wearing a bright colored ball cap, hooded sweatshirt, plaid designed shirt, blue jeans, and carrying a backpack.  The second suspect is described as a white male, 18-20 yrs. old, approximately 5’8” tall, wearing a black coat and blue jeans.

The Central Michigan University Police are investigating a room burglary that occurred in Celani Hall on December 10, 2007 at approximately 3:45 p.m.  A suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing.  The room door was unlocked at the time of the burglary.  The CMU police would like to remind all residents to lock their room doors at all times to prevent theft.  Please also remove valuables from your room during break.

CMU police make arrest in stolen vehicle case

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University police have arrested a 19-year-old student who stole a campus vehicle Thursday.

Stan Dinius, CMU police chief, says the student drove off in a facilities management truck that was left running outside Carey Hall around 8:45 a.m.  The suspect drove the vehicle around Mount Pleasant, crashed into a car and then returned to campus where he was spotted in the parking lot south of the football stadium.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with motor vehicle theft and driving under the influence of alcohol.  He was lodged in the Isabella County Jail.

CMU police investigate burglaries

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University police are reminding students to lock their residence hall doors following three burglaries early December 1.

One 18-year-old suspect has been arrested and a second subject has been identified in connection with the robberies that occurred in Thorpe Hall.

CMU police say the suspects entered the Thorpe Hall rooms while the occupants were sleeping and stole a variety of items.  A search warrant for a CMU student's room was issued, and several suspected stolen items were seized during the search.

On November 17, 2007 at approximately 4:00 a.m. a stolen vehicle was involved in an accident on Pickard Road near Nottawa Road.  The vehicle was stolen from parking lot 63 on the CMU campus.  The owner last saw the vehicle when he parked it in lot 63 for the football game.

Nooses in CMU classroom under investigation - reward offered

Central Michigan University police are offering a $500 reward as they investigate the discovery of four hangman nooses in a classroom.

Stan Dinius, CMU Police Chief, says a student in the Engineering and Technology Building found the nooses on Monday.  The nooses were made from flexible compressed gas lines that are used for laboratory work.

Dinius says students and employees are being questioned as police gather information in the case.

On Friday, November 2, 2007, around 5p.m. someone entered an unlocked residence hall room in Saxe Hall and stole two laptop computers.

Possible Suspects

1)  Black male, approximately 5’6’’ to 5’ 9” tall, 18-22 years of age, described as having a thin lined mustache and bushy chin chair, hair braided, green baseball cap with flat bill tilted upwards, wearing blue jeans. 

2)  Black male, 5’6’’ to 5’ 9” tall, 18-22 years of age, only described as wearing a wool “beanie cap”, navy blue in color.

At approximately 10:30 pm, on Friday, October 12 there was a robbery incident which occurred on the campus of Central Michigan University.

A female subject was approached and pushed into a group of trees near the corner of Washington and Broomfield Streets.  The suspect then took the victim's purse, emptied the contents and ultimately left with a small amount of cash and a necklace.  The suspect fled the scene on foot and has not been located - despite extensive efforts including the use of a tracking dog.

There was no other assault toward the victim, aside from the initial contact.  No weapons were observed or used in this incident.

The suspect is described as a tall (over 6 foot) black male, with a slender build.  He was wearing a dark ball-cap and navy blue sweatshirt with a Nike swoosh on the front.  The sweatshirt also had a "V" shaped tear near the front of the neck area.  The suspect spoke with a deep voice and a lisp.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the CMU Police Department at (989) 774-3081.  There was increased foot-traffic at the time of the incident, due to the concert at Rose Arena.  If anybody was walking along Broomfield Street near Washington Street, immediately following the concert; you may have useful information to provide.

Although being a safe campus, students and faculty are asked to be alert to potential criminal activity, and to report any suspicious actions they may come across.

CMU police seek suspects in alleged assault and stalking

MOUNT PLEASANT-   Central Michigan University police are looking for two men who have allegedly assaulted and stalked a female student on more than one occasion.

The 18-year-old victim told police the incidents have occurred over the past three weeks at various locations on campus.

The first suspect is described as a white male, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, with dirty blond hair and a chipped tooth. In the most recent incident the suspect was wearing a blue tee shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. His name may be Matt.

The second suspect is a black male; 5 feet 8 inches tall; with a stocky, muscular build. In the most recent incident he was wearing black clothing.

Both suspects are 20 to 25 years of age.

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred around 2:50 a.m. Saturday.

CMU Police Chief Stan Dinius says an 18 year old women was sexually assaulted near the Towers Residence Halls while walking home from an off campus party.

Police are looking for a six-foot tall white male who was wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt.  Anyone with information is asked to call the CMU Police at 989-774-3081.

Dinius also reminds everyone to use the buddy system and be accompanied by someone when walking at night.  Take care of yourself and your friends and do not walk alone at night!

On Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 8:48 pm CMU Police Officers responded to an assault which took place in Beddow Hall.

There was a physical altercation and a threat of bodily harm made against a student.

As a result of the incident, a 17 year old female CMU student from Southfield was arrested for the offense of aggravated assault.

She was lodged in the Isabella County Jail.  Arraignment will take place later this date.


CMU POLICE SEEK TIPS IN SUSPECTED CAMPUS ARSONS

MOUNT PLEASANT — CMU Police are seeking information regarding a pair of on-campus fires that occurred July 1, adding to a rash of fires in Mount Pleasant during the past several days. All are suspected arsons.

At 9:06 p.m. July 1, police received a report of a grass fire on the divider between the north and south ends of parking lot No. 33 on campus. At 11:23 p.m., police then received a report of a bush on fire between Sloan Hall and Finch Fieldhouse. Both fires were quickly extinguished, and damage was minimal, said CMU Police Chief Stan Dinius.

The suspect in the arsons is a college-aged, Caucasian male, he said.

Anyone who observed suspicious persons or activities in the areas of the arsons is asked to call CMU Police at 989-774-3081. Additionally, sightings of suspicious persons or activities on campus at any time should be reported to the police at that same telephone number.

 Burglary Incident

Two suspects are lodged in the Isabella County Jail following the breaking and entering of the Microchips Computer Store in Central Michigan University Bovee University Center around 3:15 a.m. Monday.

CMU Police who responded to an alarm saw a suspect fleeing the building and chased him to a parking lot between Ronan and Powers halls.  The suspect ignored police orders to stop and got in a vehicle containing a second subject.  The officers ordered the suspects to exit the vehicle, but instead the driver started the car and drove at police.  One officer fired his weapon in self defense, but no one was injured.

The suspects were stopped a short time later on River Road by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department and were arrested.

The CMU Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department, Tribal Police and the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

NEWS RELEASE

The CMU Police Department is investigating a small trash fire that occurred on Monday, February 19, 2007 on the 6th floor of Wheeler Hall.  Officers were dispatched to a fire alarm at 12:57 a.m.  Prior to their arrival the fire was extinguished by a resident with a fire extinguisher.  When the officers arrived there was minor damage to the carpet in the hallway of the 6th floor of Wheeler Hall.

The Mount Pleasant Fire Department arrived on scene and assisted with the investigation.   During the fire the Wheeler Hall Residence Hall was evacuated.  All residents were allowed to return to their rooms a short time later.  The fire remains under investigation.

NEWS RELEASE

The CMU Police Department is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred on the 7th floor of Wheeler Hall on Wednesday, February 14, 2007.  Officers were dispatched to a fire alarm shortly after 11 p.m.  Prior to their arrival the fire sprinkler system was activated.  When the officers arrived there was smoke coming from the room and a fire was visible inside the room.

The Mount Pleasant Fire Department arrived on scene to control the fire and shortly after the fire was extinguished.  There was water damage from the sprinkler system primarily on the 7th floor; other floors did receive minor damage.  During the fire the entire Towers Complex was evacuated.  All residents were allowed to return to their rooms several hours later.  The fire remains under investigation.

Once again, on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, between 1:10 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. someone entered an unlocked residence hall room in Calkins Hall and stole two laptop computers.

 Possible Suspects

 1)  Black male, approximately 6’0’’ tall, short hair, medium build.  He was last seen wearing a tan colored jacket with a brown winter cap.

 2)  Black male, 5’6’’ tall, short hair, medium build.  He was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket and carrying a dark colored backpack.

The CMU Police Department has learned of a fraudulent scheme which has been taking place over the past couple of days on the Mt. Pleasant campus.

An unidentified male caller has called people on campus indicating that he is with the Target store.

He asks for personal information in exchange for a password.  He informs them they can pick-up a free gift card at the Mt. Pleasant Target store in exchange for their cooperation.

This is a fraudulent scheme.  Target will NOT call anyone and ask for any personal information over the telephone.

Just a reminder, DO NOT give out any personal information to anyone over the telephone.
