Dispatch Office

"Provide service to the University Community by facilitating communications between the public and the Public Safety Agencies (police/fire/ems) which serve the CMU population..."

Manned by 3 full time dispatchers and several student service officers, this full service Dispatch Center provides service to the campus community on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week, even during the holidays and breaks. As the answering point for all 911 calls from on-campus, it is classified as a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Our staff handles all calls for emergency service - police, fire, and emergency medical services. The Dispatch Center also receives all calls to the department's non-emergency/business numbers. An average day results in handling 200-300 telephone calls in addition to police radio traffic.

We also operate as the Radio Dispatch Office for CMU Police providing the "vital lifeline" between CMU Police Officers and outside agencies including the Mt. Pleasant Police and Fire departments, Isabella County Sheriff's Office, and Mobile Medical Response Inc. (Ambulance Service for Isabella County). We have access to the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), which allows us to access Michigan Secretary of State and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) databases.

The Dispatch Office also handles the CMU Bicycle Registration system. This is a free service, which is available to everyone in the campus community. By registering your bicycle with the CMU Police Department there is a permanent record of the information needed by law enforcement agencies should your bicycle be stolen while at CMU or at any other time thereafter.

In the evening and during the weekends, temporary and visitor parking permits are available from the dispatch office. Visitors who receive a parking violation may have them voided at our office also. Others who receive parking violations may pay them at the CMU Police Department by placing them in the yellow "fine-o-meter" box outside the main door to our lobby. During the weekday hours between 7:30 am and 5:00 PM, please direct your calls and inquiries directly to the Parking Services at (989) 774-3083.

Unlike many of our civic counterparts who only handle 911 calls, we have many hats to wear. Occasionally it is necessary to place your call on hold to handle other issues of a higher priority. If this should happen, please bear with us as we promise to answer your call and get you the service you need in the quickest possible time. If you have questions about what the Dispatch Center does, please feel free to contact us for more information. We will be glad to help you in anyway that we can.
