Police Inline Skate Patrol

Since the spring of 1998 one Central Michigan University Police officer has been patrolling campus on inline skates. Inline skate patrol allows this officer to not only get out and see places that are difficult to reach from a patrol car, but it makes the officer more approachable by the students and staff.

The officer that proposed this variation of the dreaded foot patrol of years past is an avid skater and recognized the potential to combine his chosen style of recreation and exercise with a valuable form of police patrol.

The Skate Patrol officer's daily activity varies from routine patrol in isolated areas to providing information to the public on crime prevention techniques. This addition to the CMU Police Department is sure to change many officers minds on the value of the police officer walking, or should we say skating, the neighborhood beat on our campus. For more information on police inline skate patrol contact Officer Tim Prout at (989) 774-3110.

The CMU Police Department would like to thank the Rollerblade Company for their support of this project.
