RECRUITING GUIDE
2007-2008
The Central Michigan University police Department is committed to the
campus community with quality police services. Our staff is trained
in criminal law, crime investigation and traffic and parking control.
We maintain highly trained personnel available to respond to situations
24 hours a day, seven days a week. The CMU Police Department provides
emergency telephones, an anonymous tip line and other services to assist
the campus community. The employees of the CMU Police Department assist
Central Michigan University by providing a safe environment that will
facilitate the educational process. Our programs are communicated on a
regular basis to the faculty and staff, students and the CMU community
through crime prevention programs, brochures, and frequent citizen contacts.
Recruiting Information
- Candidates Minimum Qualifications:
- MCOLES certifiable upon employment
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Good moral character
- Valid Michigan driver’s license
- Must have the ability to work with multicultural/diverse groups, students, faculty/staff and guests to Central Michigan University
- Must pass a background investigation, a psychological examination and a physical examination
- Preferred Qualifications:
- An Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field

- Probationary Period:

All newly hired police officers must successfully complete a formal 14-week field-training program.
- The probationary period is 12 months; however, it may be extended for an indefinite period of time depending on officer qualifications.
- Overtime:

Some special event overtime is mandatory. Also, there is frequent opportunity for overtime on a voluntary basis.
